WAUPACA, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Darwin Huebner was sentenced to 15 years in prison for causing the death of another person during a sexual encounter.
Huebner, 72, was also sentenced to another three years in prison after that for possessing child pornography.
He previously pleaded guilty to second-degree reckless homicide for the April 2024 death. Huebner was placed on a total of 13 years extended supervision and must register as a sex offender for the rest of his life, Judge Troy Nielsen ordered Tuesday, court records show.
In the reckless homicide case, police were called to a Larrabee home April 8, 2024, for a report of a death.
According to the criminal complaint, Huebner said he met the victim through an online dating app. They met at a hotel, then returned to his house. The victim then drank whiskey and took several drugs.
At that point, the two engaged in acting out what Huebner described as sexual fantasies, which included rape play, sex toys, choking and an electronic stun device.
Huebner told police he fell asleep around 2 a.m., woke up at 7 a.m. and noticed the victim was unresponsive. He said he then called 911. However, police searched his phone and discovered a series of calls, texts and videos to others during that five-hour window — including a text at 6:03 a.m. stating, “Call me ASAP. It’s an emergency,” the complaint states.
The victim is only identified by their initials in the complaint.
