OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Oshkosh-based Valley Christian School plans to build a new high school campus that will open in fall 2027.
The pre-K to 12th grade nondenominational Christian school now enrolls more than 700 students — tripling its enrollment over the last 10 years.
“This building is just going to be a tool to help us continue to deliver a Christian education,” said head of school Brad Dunn. “Really, at the level that we’re always trying to improve and do a better job with.”
The new campus will be located on a 42-acre property off Fernau Avenue, between Vinland Street and Street.
“Getting a dedicated high school space is just going to take the pressure off of everyone,” said Dunn.
Right now, high schoolers share a campus with elementary students, and most teachers have to share classrooms.
“The excitement with our kids really lies among being able to be in a place that they really call home, fully,” said Haley Birr, a mom of three Valley Christian students and a staff member herself.
Details on the new campus include:
- Will house high school only
- Scheduled to open in fall 2027
- 90% fundraised
- $14.5 million total for the first phase
- All privately funded
- School will continue to run its middle school out of its current campus
- School will also enroll students at its campuses in Neenah and a recently-purchased campus in Oshkosh
The school’s growth has been aided by the state voucher program, which 56% of its students are part of, but that’s only a segment of it. Valley Christian is also the biggest non-denominational Christian school in the area, which is a draw for some.
“We value Christian education. We value Christian worldview,” said Birr. “And we also value the kids being able to openly talk about their faith and weigh it against what they actually believe.”
Dunn thinks its outspokenly Christian positions have led to its growth.
“We don’t make any apologies about being a Christian school. It’s who we are. It’s woven into the fabric of Valley Christian School,” said Dunn. “Parents know exactly what they’re going to get when they come to VCS.”
