GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The approach of winter storms this weekend means Northeast Wisconsin residents are preparing for a big hit of winter weather this weekend.
It’s been since late December that our area had a big snowstorm. The folks at Martin Hardware in Green Bay said despite this, they still have plenty of winter equipment in stock.
“We always have shovels, we always have salt, we always have snow throwers. They might be put in the back, but they’re always here and we can pull them out at a moment’s notice,” Martin Hardware owner Katy Martin said.
Martin said the store is in the midst of transitioning to summer equipment. Walking around, you’ll find grass seed and hoses in one aisle, while snow blowers and salt are out in another.
Although they did pack some of their winter equipment away, they still have plenty of inventory left and are doing what they can to help residents get through the incoming storm.
“We have condensed, but we have not removed,” Martin said. “So, if your shovel didn’t make it through the winter, we’ve got one that will work for you.”
Meanwhile, at Kimps Ace Hardware in Ashwaubenon, you’ll also find plenty of ice melt, shovels and, of course, summer items too. But there’s a whole fleet of snow blowers ready to be bought.
“Had we been one more week past, we would have completely had all of these offsite in a warehouse and had to bring them back, but we lucked out,” Kimps Ace Hardware owner Clint Kimps said.
He said mechanics have dropped everything in the small engine shop the past few days to work on snow blowers. Kimps isn’t expecting many tune-ups at this point, but suggests people check their snow blowers now — especially if they’ve been sitting since December.
“I would hop right outside, make sure my snowblower fires up. If it doesn’t, try and get fresh fuel in it and prime it probably 40-50 times. You’re going to see some fuel start to leak out of it. That is normal,” Kimps said.
Kimps said if as much snow falls as predicted, he expects his snow blowers to sell out by Sunday.
