BROWN COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Power line work along the Fox River is part of a project to ensure reliable service and includes shoreline stabilization, according to the American Transmission Company.
The company is rebuilding 5.5 miles of power line from the Highway V Substation in Allouez to an existing ATC electric pole near Voyageur Park in De Pere.
“This project, part of ATC’s asset renewal program to maintain reliable electric service, replaces about 73 aging electric poles and upgrades the power line along its existing utility corridor, including areas adjacent to the Fox River and the Fox River State Trail,” the company said. “For environmental and safety reasons, some new electric poles are being relocated farther inland, especially where erosion had moved older poles closer to the Fox River. ATC is also stabilizing the shoreline to protect the river and prevent future erosion.”
The project also includes some upgrades:
The project also involves work at the Highway V Substation to connect the upgraded line to current equipment. After a thorough assessment, ATC determined that continuing to operate the existing line without replacement would increase the risk of outages and maintenance issues. Rebuilding the line ensures ongoing reliability, compliance with design and safety standards, and supports the region’s long-term electric needs.
Work started in January and is expected to be completed by fall.
