EGG HARBOR, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A house in Egg Harbor was damaged by fire early Monday morning.
Just after 4 a.m., crews were dispatched to 5048 Alpen Lane in the village of Egg Harbor for a reported bedroom fire.
A Door County sheriff’s deputy was the first to arrive on scene and found fire on the exterior of the residence. The deputy was able to extinguish most of the fire using a fire extinguisher from their patrol car. Firefighters put out the remaining hot spots and checked the inside of the home for fire extension with a thermal imaging camera.
Officials say the residents, who were alerted to the fire by a smoke detector near the bedroom, safely evacuated and were not injured.
Damage to the home is estimated to be approximately $20,000. The fire was sparked by improperly discarded smoking materials.
