(WTAQ-WLUK) – The Green Bay Fire Department is emphasizing the importance of smoke alarms after a fire at a home in Bellevue, which claimed one person’s life.
A release from GBMFD on Sunday says crews responded to a fire at a home on the 100 block of Scarlet Lane in the Village of Bellevue. Crews were notified that two people in the home may have been trapped inside.
When officials arrived, they said ‘significant’ smoke was coming from the home, and one person was outside. Efforts were underway to find the second person inside the home. After locating the second person, officials say they were pronounced dead on the scene.
Officials say firefighters fought heavy fire conditions in the home’s living area and were forced to fight the fire defensively, as the structural integrity of the home was no longer intact.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The department referred to the incident as an important reminder of the life-saving potential of smoke alarms.
“We want to highlight the critical role of working smoke alarms, which alerted the occupants to evacuate the home. This incident serves as an important reminder of the life-saving potential of smoke alarms. For those in need of smoke alarms, please call our hotline at (920) 448-3303 or visit our website at www.greenbayfd.com.”
