MANITOWOC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A drunken Manitowoc woman who allegedly shot the man who lives with her in both ankles through a bathroom door during an argument pleaded not guilty Wednesday.
Julia Gundt, 29, waived a preliminary hearing on three counts, including first-degree recklessly endangering safety, before pleading not guilty. No trial date was set. She returns to court March 31 for a status conference, court records show.
Police were called to the Johnston Drive address Feb. 9 for a shooting. The victim told police they had been arguing, so he went into the bathroom and closed the door for his safety.
He said Gundt found the gun, which had hidden from her. He said he was about to leave the bathroom when he heard a loud bang and realized he had been shot.
In a news release, police said the victim suffered gunshot wounds to both ankles. Police found bullet holes in the bathroom door and in a bathroom wall.
Authorities say Gundt also fired a random shot in the home two weeks prior. In both cases, there were two others present. The probable cause statement suggests the other two were children, but it is unclear due to the redactions.
