GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — For the second time in less than two weeks, wastewater has leaked in downtown Green Bay.
NEW Water says Tuesday’s leak was discovered just before 10:30 a.m. at a sewer bypass pipe near Pine and N. Roosevelt streets. Crews were able to stop the leak within half an hour. An estimated 160 gallons were released to the ground surface.
Unlike the Feb. 12 leak, no wastewater reached the storm sewer system or the East River.
NEW Water is investigating what caused the leak. It has also notified the Wisconsin departments of Natural Resources and Health Services.
Cleanup efforts have begun.
The leak occurred as work continued on a $29 million project to replace century-old sewer lines in downtown Green Bay and a small portion of Allouez.
