GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Modifications could be coming to Green Bay’s short-term rental ordinance.
On Monday night, the city’s Plan Commission voted to recommend updates to short-term rental rules. The proposed changes to the municipal code will be considered by the Green Bay Common Council at its meeting March 3.
Officials say the changes “are designed to protect neighborhood quality-of-life, increase transparency and hold problem properties accountable, while still supporting responsible hosts and local tourism.”
Under the proposal, every short-term rental property must post written “house rules” for guests that clearly state parking requirements and restrictions, noise limitations and contact information for a local representative.
Green Bay would also maintain a public online map showing where permitted short-term rentals are located. It would include the name and contact information of the permit-holder or local contact, as well as the date of issuance, giving neighbors and city staff a simple way to identify and reach the responsible party.
Additionally, the ordinance aims to strengthen the permit application and renewal process and establish a structured “correction meeting” milestone before any suspension or revocation can occur. If problems were to persist after that meeting and the establishment of a required corrective action plan, the city could seek to suspend or revoke a permit for repeated violations, nuisance activity or conduct that threatens public health, safety or welfare.
Green Bay Mayor Eric Genrich said in a news release, “These changes empower neighborhood residents and property owners to communicate with one another and address any problems that arise as quickly as possible.”
