(GREEN BAY ATHLETICS) MURRAY, KY – The Green Bay softball team fell to South Dakota State 10-2 in their final game of the Velvet Milkman Classic in Murray, Ky., on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Paeton Kringel started the game for GB in the circle and took the loss. Ava Schill and Jasmyn Trigueros pitched in relief for the Phoenix. Akayla Barnard took the start for SDSU and pitched five innings, allowing two runs to GB’s offense.
Green Bay started the scoring in the top half of the second inning, scoring two runs off a pair of fielders’ choices. Brooke Schwall and Sara Ebner each drove in a run. However, the Jackrabbits responded with a six-spot in the bottom of the second, stringing together two, two-RBI hits before a two-run homer made the score 6-2.
The Phoenix offense was unable to string any more runs, as the Jackrabbits added four more in the fourth and shut down the GB offense in the fifth to finish the game on a run-rule.
Emma Krueger led the Phoenix, going 2-for-3 at the dish. Ebner and Schwall drove in runs. Ebner, Paige Guse, and Sidney LaMotte each had a hit for GB as well.
GAME NOTES
» South Dakota State outhit Green Bay 11-5.
» South Dakota State was led offensively by Amanda Vacanti, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI and two runs scored.
COMING UP
Green Bay will be back in action next weekend at the Lindenwood Invite from Feb. 27 – March 1. The Phoenix will kick off day one on Friday against Indiana State at 10 a.m. CST and Valparaiso at 12:30 p.m. CST.
