Students stage an anti-ICE walkout two days in a row at Edison Middle School. Feb. 19, 2026 PC: Fox 11 Online
GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Students at Edison Middle School in Green Bay staged another anti-ICE walkout Thursday, one day after a walkout ended in damage to several area businesses.
In a statement Thursday, the Green Bay Area Public School District estimated that about 20 students left class.
After Wednesday’s walkout, the district apologized to area businesses, calling the event a ‘disruption and inappropriate behaviors.’
Green Bay Police’s Lt. Kris Thoreson, the SRO supervisor, provided a statement following Wednesday’s walkout.
We are currently in the initial stages of reviewing all incidents reported yesterday. Based on our review of these juvenile matters, we will determine whether any ordinance or criminal violations occurred and decide what enforcement action, if any, is appropriate.
And on Thursday, students who walked out of school weren’t seen leaving school grounds after warnings from Green Bay police.
“If you leave school property, you could be cited for truancy. I suggest you go back to class,” said the officer over his cruiser speaker to students outside the school.
The Green Bay Area Public School District said any consequences from the damage caused to businesses from Wednesday’s walkout will align with board policy.
It also offered this statement when asked why students are allowed to leave:
While our doors are locked, it is against fire code to lock the doors from the inside. In addition, refusing to allow kids to leave would be violating their first amendment rights. As we shared with Edison families yesterday and today, students on school grounds will be supervised to ensure safety.
As with past walkouts, the district has reiterated that students who leave class without parental permission will receive an unexcused absence.
