(ST. NORBERT COMMUNICATIONS) MILWAUKEE – St. Norbert College was ousted 75-67 by Milwaukee School of Engineering in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference game at the Kern Center.
The Green Knights (18-6, 15-2 NACC) had a small lead in the second half until it was snatched by the Raiders, who held on to the lead for the final 10 minutes.
Three’s fell early for the Green Knights, as Connor Pytleski, Mason Freiburger (pictured) and Ryan Cox all connected to give St. Norbert a 13-9 lead after five minutes. An 10-3 run in the middle of the first half saw St. Norbert lead 28-19 before a MSOE run cut the lead down to two points as St. Norbert lead 32-30 at halftime.
St. Norbert was able to keep a five-point lead for the first few minutes of the second half till the Raiders tied the game 44-44 with 12:15 to play. A 6-0 run gave MSOE they lead they had fought for most of the game. Two jumpers from Pytleski cut the lead down to 59-56 with just under five minutes to play, but it was the closest St. Norbert came to taking back the advantage.
St. Norbert shot 45.2 percent from the floor (28-for-62). Freiburger led with 17 points while Will Stuckey had 14 points and five assists. Pytleski and Cole Uhlenbrauck both had 12 points.
MSOE shot 57.4 percent from the floor (27-for-47). Mason Dopirak led the Raiders with 31 points and 10 boards.
DE PERE – It was a perfect end in St. Norbert College’s 76-71 win over Milwaukee School of Engineering, going an immaculate 10-for-10 from the floor and 8-for-8 from the free throw line as the Green Knights erased a 14-point deficit in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference game at Mulva Family Fitness and Sports Center.
The Green Knights (15-7, 13-2) trailed for most of the first, second and third quarters before the late run.
The Raiders were lethal from three in the early going, making seven in just the first quarter. MSOE ended the first quarter on a 9-3 run to hold a 26-18 lead and went up by 14 points in the second quarter until a three from Avery Bierowski ended the bleeding. A 6-0 run led by Marnie Kahl and Rose Hahn cut the lead down to 34-27 with 2:54 to play in the second, while a three just before the buzzer from Kahl gave MSOE a 39-32 halftime lead.
Hahn and Taylor Thiry (pictured) made an impact early in the third quarter as the Raiders held on to a 46-45 lead, with Thiry grabbing six points while Hahn had five. An and-one opportunity for Thiry tied the game before the Raiders quickly retook the lead to hold a 49-47 advantage.
Despite shots falling for St. Norbert in the fourth quarter, the Raiders still managed to hold a one possession lead until six quick points from Olivia Conway finally gave St. Norbert its first lead since 8-6 in the first quarter. Late free throws from Thiry and Witteck ensured a wild victory for the Green Knights.
St. Norbert shot 55.8 percent from the floor (29-for-52). Thiry led the way with 20 points and is now tied for fourth in St. Norbert’s all-time scoring list with Carla Biwan ’83 with 1,297 career points. Kahl had 14 points while Conway had 11 points with six assists.
MSOE shot 46.4 percent from the floor (26-for-56). Lana Kerly led the Raiders with 20 points.
