(MARQUETTE COMMUNICATIONS) MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University men’s lacrosse team (0-2, 0-0 BIG EAST) fell to No. 6/7 University of Notre Dame (1-0, 0-0 ACC), 16–11, on Saturday afternoon at Valley Fields.
Carsen Brandt recorded a hat trick and an assist, while Tucker Mullen added a career-high four points to lead the Golden Eagles. Beau Westphal also notched a hat trick on the day.
Notre Dame built an early edge with three quick goals in the first four-and-a-half minutes of action. Marquette answered at the 7:49 mark of the opening quarter when Ethan Salvia found the back of the net for his first career goal to make it 3–1.
Marquette responded with two more goals to tie the game at 3–3, but Notre Dame carried an 8–6 lead into halftime after a back-and-forth second period.
Marquette opened the second half looking to shift momentum, getting two unanswered goals from Matt Caputo and Brandt. Notre Dame answered with a four-goal third quarter to extend its advantage and maintained control heading into the final frame.
Notre Dame added four goals in the fourth quarter to seal the outcome, while Marquette closed the game with late scores from Brandt and Westphal to account for the 16–11 final.
NOTABLES:

• Lucas Lawas made 10 saves.
• Marquette won the faceoff battle, 16–15.
