Zurich Simmons (Wisconsin DOC)
GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A former Green Bay Correctional Institution inmate accused of exposing himself to female staff members dozens of times is competent to stand trial. A May 5 trial was scheduled Friday.
Zurich Simmons faces 23 counts of lewd & lascivious behavior – exposure for incidents between March 21 and June 13, 2023.
Competency refers to a defendant’s ability to understand the court proceedings and assist in his own defense. After two psychiatric reviews, both found him competent to stand trial, Judge John Zakowski said Friday.
The results will be reviewed Feb. 6.
The criminal complaint refers to as many as 89 conducts reports at the prison for such actions, but some were outside of the statute of limitations and were not charged.
In each case, female prison staff members reported Simmons would intentionally expose and touch himself when they were present, the complaint states.
Court records show Simmons has previous convictions for attempted sexual assault of a child and other charges. He is currently housed at a Milwaukee jail state records show.
