GREENVILLE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Minnesota-based Sun Country Airlines is being acquired by Allegiant Airlines in a $1.5 billion deal.
Appleton International Airport (ATW) offers service from both carriers.
“As of right now, we don’t have a tremendous amount of information. We do know that they will both be operating as independent airlines until the acquisition is completed, and we expect that to be the second half of 2026,” said ATW Director Weber said.
Weber said local benefits of the merger could include additional destinations and increased scheduling flexibility.
“At Appleton airport, we’re going to look at those opportunities, and if they make sense for our community and our customer base, we’re going to go after them and seek to bring them here,” Weber said.
As for what travelers at ATW should know in the coming months:
“In the initial stage, I think they can have confidence that both airlines are going to continue to operate out of Appleton airport as they have, so they can have confidence going out and booking tickets,” Weber said.
