GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The case against the Preble High School student who brought a gun and ammunition to school in September, leading to several security changes within the Green Bay Area Public School District, will stay in juvenile court.
While juvenile court proceedings are closed to the public, there is an exception to allow the media to cover such hearings, with the condition the juvenile and their family members not be identified.
The 16-year-old male student entered into plea agreement Tuesday that will send him to a secure juvenile facility in Racine County until he’s 18 years old.
Under the agreement, the teen pleaded no contest to four charges:
- Felony possessions of firearm on school property
- Possession of dangerous weapon by someone under age 18
- Carrying a concealed weapon
- Disorderly conduct
Prosecutors said while the charges the teen faced are very serious, this was his first offense, hence their decision to leave the case in juvenile court. If the teen violates any conditions of the plea agreement, the case will be moved to adult court.
While the teen is scheduled to be back in juvenile court next month for his formal sentencing, he could be sent to the secure facility in Racine before them to start programming.
