GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – From the candy to the costumes, there is so much that goes into Halloween. And the National Retail Federation is predicting record breaking spending on the holiday this year.
“It’s been super super busy here,” said Kendell Felmer, assistant manager at Spirit Halloween.
With less than a week to go, until Halloween, the store in Green Bay was full of tricks, treats and everything in between.
“My two kids absolutely love, they love the Halloween spirit, so they always love coming in here and stepping on all the things and watching them go,” said Matthew Timler of De Pere.
Shopper Janko Bozic added, “About a week going into Halloween, I’m trying to find some last minute costume ideas. There’s a competition I’m thinking about and I really want to win that grand prize.”
From the animatronics to the costumes, the store was bustling with ghouls and goblins.
“We’ve had, very many trucks, extra trucks coming in trying to keep us full until that Halloween season, that spooky season comes around us,” said Felmer.
The candy aisle at Mejier is the same.
Prices are not scaring people away.
According to the National Retail Federation, Americans are expected to spend a record breaking $13.1 billion on Halloween this year, that’s up $1.5 billion from 2024.
“I’m not surprised,” said shopper Nadia Rye. She added, “People are having more fun, kids are getting more involved, parents are getting more involved. I think everyone is just having a good time with it now.”
Anthony Kotula is doing his part. He spent more than $140 on costumes and accessories for his kids.
He said, “I think we got quite a bit for that money so we’re pretty happy.”
While the cost of Halloween isn’t scary for everyone, some are watching their spending.
“I would say we kind of limit what we get for Halloween now and we try to, I think we’re going to try and thrift our own costumes. But, we’re here with my nephew, Halloween is his favorite, so he’s going to talk grandma into buying him a nice Halloween costume,” added Emma Barr.
Because Halloween is about the tricks and the treats.
