TOWN OF WOLF RIVER (WLUK) — One person has died and another was taken to a local hospital after an incident on Lake Poygan, near the mouth of the Wolf River, at an access point to the water called the Bay Lane Boat Launch.
The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office says it responded to a call at the boat launch just before 5 p.m., after a boater discovered a man in the water who was in distress. The man was pulled from the water and taken to a local hospital, and is expected to survive.
“During contact with the involved vessel and its occupants, deputies learned that a second male was unaccounted for and believed to still be in the water,” a press release from the sheriff’s office says.
The Winnebago County Dive and Rescue Team, along with the drone team and several area fire departments, responded to the area to support search efforts.
Officials say the dive and rescue team, along with the Wisconsin DNR, found the missing man in the early afternoon on Sunday. He was deceased.
“His identity is known but is being withheld pending notification of family members,” the release says.
Officials in Winnebago County continue to investigate the incident.
