SHAWANO, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The Shawano School District says it may cancel its remaining high school homecoming activities due to recent acts of vandalism in the community.
In a statement Thursday, Superintendent Kurt Krizan said the vandalism “is more than ‘just toilet papering'” and called it “senseless acts [that] have caused physical harm to students, community members, and have damaged property.”
“The acts of vandalism that have been taking place send a strong and negative message to the very community that supports your education. The same community that voted to support a referendum to improve your educational experience in Shawano. The community decided to invest in our schools and in your future and they deserve far more gratitude than what’s been shown this past week,” Krizan wrote.
Krizan said if the vandalism continues, he will “be forced to cancel” the remaining homecoming activities.
Homecoming is a time for celebration and school spirit. Don’t let the actions of a few ruin it for everyone. If you have any information about these incidents or if you see further acts of vandalism, I urge you to speak up and speak out. Your willingness to do the right thing is crucial to ensuring our homecoming celebration continues as planned.
Shawano’s homecoming parade and football game are scheduled for Friday.
