NAVARINO, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The season for picking pumpkins is underway.
It’s a sea of orange at Porter’s Patch Farm in Navarino. Owner Troy Porter says the season has been bountiful.
“There’s a lot. We probably got tens of thousands of pumpkins available. All different sizes, colors, warty. You name it and we try to grow it,” said Troy Porter, Porter’s Patch Owner.
It’s all part of a seasonal celebration called “Farmtoberfest.” Porter says there are dozens of pumpkin-themed activities, including soccer, a three hole disc-golf course, and a seven-acre corn maze.
“This year, we have the Crazy Cutout Corn Maze Challenge. So you basically go in, and navigating the corn maze and trying to find all your cutouts and take your picture with them,” he said.
“We like to go to the corn maze. We’ve been to one a few years. It’s kind of fun to do,” said visitor Mike Hauner, Ashwaubenon.
“It’s always kind of nice to come out to a rural setting and see what’s going on. This time of year is a great time of year. The weather is beautiful. The colors. The trees are changing color. And it’s just kind of a fun activity to come out here,” said Hauner.
As pumpkin picking continues, Troy Porter says there should be enough gourds to get the fall tradition started.
“I would say the majority. Especially early on, they’re going on the porch, or somewhere in the yard for display and just decorating. And then later on, once you get closer to the end of the month, then I think a lot of people carve them,” he said.
Farmtoberfest is scheduled to run each Friday, Saturday and Sunday through October 26th.
Pumpkin growers say the event could be impacted by the weather.
They say it’s a good idea to check the “Porter’s Patch” website for conditions before heading out.
