GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A fight broke out during the school day at Preble High School, Green Bay school district officials have confirmed.
The fight occurred less than two weeks after a pair of lunch-hour disturbances at the school led to the discovery of a loaded gun in a student’s backpack.
Preble principal Courtney Kuehn sent this letter to parents Monday:
Good Afternoon Preble Families,
Earlier today in the commons there was a physical altercation that occurred that involved three students, which stemmed from a verbal conflict.
Today, during the advisory period, students viewed the following podcast: Unsafe Acts. We appreciate your partnership in having conversations with your students about alternatives to unsafe acts both on and off school grounds. These acts not only affect the involved students, but also impact everyone who shares the space. All unsafe acts will be addressed in the manner outlined in the podcast.
Please know we continue to work with students on how to appropriately resolve student conflicts. Your support by talking to your children about how to safely navigate conflict with one another is invaluable.
Sincerely,
Courtney Kuehn, Principal
The fight took place on the first day of new enhanced security protocols for middle and high school students that went into effect in response to the discovery of the gun. Those protocols include a requirement that any backpacks brought into the building be clear.
