LUDINGTON, Mich. (WTAQ-WLUK) — The SS Badger was damaged in an incident that occurred during a docking procedure Wednesday.
According to a news release, the 410-foot vessel “sustained damage to a stern sea gate after coming in contact with its permanently moored sister ship the SS Spartan in the Ludington Harbor.”
It happened around 6:50 p.m. No one aboard the vessel was injured.
The extent of the damage to the SS Badger is still being assessed. Marine engineers will determine what repairs are necessary in order to ensure the vessel can continue to operate safely.
“We are grateful that no one was harmed in this incident. The safety of our passengers and crew is our top priority,” said Thom Hawley with Lake Michigan Carferry in the release. ” We are working with the relevant authorities to investigate the cause of this collision and to implement any necessary preventative measures.”
The SS Badger is a passenger and car ferry that runs between Manitowoc and Ludington, Michigan.
