(WNFL) – The Milwaukee Brewers reduced their magic number for clinching the National League Central Division to 4 with their 5-2 win over the Los Angeles Angels and the Chicago Cubs 1-0 loss to the Cincinnatie Reds on Thursday.
Brewers manager Pat Murphy talked about traveling to St. Louis tonight with the magic number down to 4.
The Brewers who won their 19th straight game in which Quinn Priester pitches broke a 1-1 tie with 3 runs in the seventh inning.
Brewers third baseman Chad Durbin talked about the streak that the Brewers have when Priester pitches.
Durbin also talked about whether or not this team has exceeded expectations.
Priester, for his part, said that he wants to pitch deeper into games after making it into the sixth inning on Thursday.
They scored the go-ahead run on a single by Brice Turang and added additional runs on a run-scoring double by Christian Yelich and an sacrifice fly by Andrew Vaughn.
Yelich with his RBI hit the 100 plateau for the season.
Murphy talked about that.
Aaron Ashby got the win for the Brewers with 1 1/3 innings of work in relief of Priester.
Jared Koenigs pitched the ninth inning to earn the save.
Luis Garcia took the loss for the Angels.
Next up for Milwaukee is a 3-game weekend series in St. Louis against the Cardinals.
Jacob Misiorowski will start on Friday for the Brewers. Sonny Gray will pitch for the Cardinals.
