HOBART, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The vote on building a new municipal center in Hobart will have to wait just a little bit longer.
One of the board members is currently on a business trip and attended Tuesday’s meeting over the phone.
“It is an important decision. I would like to see all five board members here, if for no other reason than just for the sake of unity, so the community is confident in what the board is doing,” said Richard Heidel, the Hobart Village Board president.
The proposal includes purchasing land from Joe DeNoble Sewer and Water Construction for $6.2 million.
“We could not pick a more centralized location. Number two, the site has the required acreage and it will satisfy all of our current needs and it will satisfy future needs as well,” said Heidel.
Currently, the police department is working in what the board says is an inadequate space. Also, part of the plan is to house the village administration and public works in the new space, too.
Some in the community took issue with the process behind the proposal.
“It’s not unreasonable that the village should be provided with high quality metrics when large decisions are being made. I believe that for the most part, the village has not provided such metrics with regards to the purchase of the DeNoble property,” said Jeffrey Koehler, a Hobart resident.
The vote has been postponed until Wednesday, Oct. 1. Board members say delaying the vote to October won’t have an impact on the proposed deal in place.
