OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The 2025-26 move-in at UW-Oshkosh marked the first for Manohar Singh, who took over as chancellor in July.
“This was an exhilarating experience for us because seeing students on campus, it just brings a different meaning to the life of a chancellor,” Singh said.
Singh was at Tuesday’s “Titan Fest” — a chance for new students to learn more about the clubs and organizations on campus.
“It gives me a very positive feeling when I see students already before the classes begin, doing what they do so beautifully. And that is creating bonds, and creating bonds with a purpose,” Singh said.
Singh says he’s spoken with many students, working to better understand their needs.
What they are looking for is an education that is fitting their financial, their academic and their mental health and overall wellbeing profiles. We want to meet the students where they are. We want to prepare them where they want to be.
After numerous years of declining enrollment, Singh said this year, things have stabilized, with enrollment in graduate programs up 13% and transfer students up 5%.
“We are still not there with respect to what we want to be in terms of the new freshman class,” Singh said. “But after a long time, we will be bringing in a freshman class that is higher than the last years’ freshman classes. About 1,322, if the projections are correct.”
That projection is based on the Universities of Wisconsin system’s 10-day enrollment census, which polled UW-Oshkosh for 13,778 total students in 2023 and 13,127 in 2024.
Singh added the university plans to introduce new athletic programs to draw in students and aims to start offering women’s flag football in the spring.
