LAWRENCE (WTAQ-WLUK) — Work is beginning on a $215 million development in the town of Lawrence.
Officials broke ground Wednesday on the 153-acre site between Interstate 41, Williams Grant Drive and Freedom Road.
Plans for Lawrence Town Center include a six-acre lake with two-acre island, 110 single-family homes, 45 townhouses and mixed-use buildings with first-floor retail and upper-level housing.
The proposal also features 30 acres of green space with three miles of walking trails, a community center, picnic pavilion, playground, splash pad, dog park, and pickleball and basketball courts.
“This is an amazing project that’s coming forward that combines the commercial with the residential. And right now, what do we need most? We need residential. So, hats off to everyone that’s involved in this project,” said Brown County Executive Troy Streckenbach. “In a time where housing is such a need in our community, we appreciate it.”
The project will be developed in phases over 10 years. Officials expect the first residents at Lawrence Town Center will be in their homes by Christmas 2026.
“This is a tremendous, tremendous asset for our community. What this is going to do is anchor the south. We’ve got a lot of development up in the northern part, some in the middle, but not much down here,” said Lanny Tibaldo, chair of the Lawrence Town Board.
I want you to think what the town center is going to do for us. It’s going to attract business. It’s going to attract residential. It’s going to attract recreation. And all of that is going to be an asset to our town.
The site of the Lawrence Town Center was considered for a multi-million-dollar warehouse distribution site in 2021, but developers said neighbors were concerned about traffic and noise.
