GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A Green Bay man has been charged with trying to kill his girlfriend.
Floyd Simmons, 62, faces six counts, including attempted first-degree intentional homicide and strangulation and suffocation.
He was in court for an initial appearance Tuesday afternoon, where a $100,000 bond was set. That hearing was adjourned early and will be completed Wednesday afternoon, online court records show.
Prosecutors say the incident happened Friday at Jackson Square Park in downtown Green Bay. The victim, a 57-year-old woman, told officers she and Simmons got into an argument about her paying rent as she was planning to move into his apartment. The victim said Simmons then choked her. She was able to fight him off, and ran to a nearby hotel to call for help.
Police eventually found Simmons in downtown Green Bay. As officers were taking him in for questioning, the criminal complaint says he muttered, “should’ve killed that (expletive), should’ve stomped on her neck.”
Police say Simmons also made threats and used racial slurs against officers, and made sexual comments toward staff members at the Brown County Jail after he was arrested.
The criminal complaint also says police found a crack pipe on Simmons.
