OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — After taking over operations at the Oshkosh Arena in August of last year, VenuWorks is reflecting on what the past 12 months have been like.
“We’ve been very busy. We had a really good Herd season. We’ve had a lot of different other events come through — other events, our own programming that we started, so it’s been very successful,” Executive Director Andy Linton said.
Those events include Rock of Ages — the arena’s first concert in over two years — and an upcoming boxing match this Saturday.
“It’s very exciting. Give us the chance to get our feet wet and get people back into the building, so that will get them used to buying some tickets,” said Linton.
And with summer coming to a close, VenuWorks hasn’t forgotten about the upcoming Wisconsin Herd season.
“We’re working to create a better season,” Linton explained. “New menu items as far as food and beverage is concerned. Some different packages, stuff like that. So yeah, we’re excited about the new season.”
VenuWorks was selected to manage the building by a court-appointed receiver last year and has a five-year contract with the owner, Bayland Buildings. Linton said that won’t change when the building sells.
“Our contract’s built in so that when the building sells, we go with it,” he said.
Linton added with four years left in their contract, VenuWorks has one simple goal.
“Just to book the building,” he said. “A lot more shows, a lot more variety of shows. We want to be something for everybody.”
Oshkosh Arena recently announced they will be hosting Kansas and Blue Öyster Cult this fall, with tickets going on sale Friday.
