MARINETTE, Wis. (WLUK) – A Marinette man is dead after driving the wrong way on US-41 early Saturday morning, authorities say.
Marinette County Sheriff Randy Miller says at 12:48 a.m. Saturday, Marinette County Dispatch received a report of a two-vehicle crash on US Highway 41 north of County Highway M in the Town of Grover. The caller reported that this involved a vehicle that was traveling the wrong way on the highway.
When deputies got to the crash scene, the investigation revealed that a vehicle driven by 30-year-old Jose Javier Mejias Guerra of Marinette was going north in the southbound lane on US-41 when he collided head on with a vehicle that was traveling south operated by 20-year-old Barbara Gualsaqui-Cabascango of Chicago, Ill.
Gualsaqui-Cabascango received minor injuries in the crash. Mejias Guerra was killed in the crash.
Alcohol appears to have been a factor in the crash that remains under investigation by the Marinette County Sheriff’s Office and the Marinette County Medical Examiner’s Office.
