DE PERE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The Wisconsin Department of Justice has identified the man who died in an officer-involved shooting last month in De Pere.
The incident happened July 26, just before 1 a.m., when police received a report of a person at the Perkofski Boat Launch who was armed with a rifle. Personnel from the De Pere Police Department, Ashwaubenon Public Safety Department and Brown County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene.
Authorities attempted to negotiate with the armed man, identified Friday as 44-year-old Scott H. McDonald, but when he produced a rifle, De Pere and Ashwaubenon officers discharged their service weapons, striking McDonald. Emergency aid was rendered, but McDonald was pronounced dead.
Officers who discharged their weapons are listed below, per the Wisconsin DOJ:
Ashwaubenon Public Safety
- Officer Andrew Wickman, three years law enforcement service
- Officer Daryl Booth, five years law enforcement service
- Officer Alek Pearson, less than one year law enforcement service
De Pere Police Department:
- Officer Kyle Phillips, four years law enforcement service
- Officer Ryan McShane, eight years law enforcement service
- Sgt. Matthew Magno, 20 years law enforcement service
The DOJ says officers were wearing body cameras during the shooting. All involved officers were placed on administrative leave, per agency policy, while the investigation plays out.
Leading the investigation is the DOJ’s Division of Criminal Investigation, with assistance from the Wisconsin State Patrol and the Wisconsin State Crime Laboratory.
After all evidence has been reviewed and facts have been determined, investigators will turn over their reports to the Brown County District Attorney’s office.
