(WTAQ-WLUK) — Three people were arrested after police pursuits Tuesday night in Winnebago and Fond du Lac counties. Drugs and ammunition were seized as a result of the incidents, but it is believed a discarded handgun is still missing.
Around 8:50 p.m., the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office was notified by the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office of a pursuit in their jurisdiction in which the wanted vehicle was traveling southbound on I-41 near USH 45 in their county. The vehicle was registered to an individual in Milwaukee.
Fond du Lac County deputies began traveling to the area of I-41 where the vehicle was headed. Winnebago County deputies were then able to relocate the vehicle before it entered Fond du Lac County. They initiated a second pursuit with the vehicle, but terminated the chase north of the area of Lakeshore Drive and Lone Elm Road.
A short time later, a Fond du Lac County deputy located the wanted vehicle parked off the roadway near W6395 Lincoln Road. Two people who were inside the suspect vehicle were picked up walking on Lincoln Road. Authorities learned there had been a third person in the vehicle who had not yet been located.
Multiple agencies — including the Fond du Lac and Winnebago County sheriff’s offices, Fond du Lac Police Department and Wisconsin State Patrol — established a perimeter around where it was believed the third individual would be. Drone and K9 teams were utilized to track the individual’s location.
The person was located attempting to exit onto White Pine Road near Lone Elm Road and was also taken into custody.
When authorities searched the vehicle and the suspects, they recovered:
- Five grams of cocaine
- 4.3 grams of “crack” cocaine packaged individually, for sale, in nine 0.5 gram bags
- 12 grams of Psilocybin (a psychedelic drug also known as “magic mushrooms”)
- Numerous THC vapes
- Ammunition
All three individuals, ranging in age from 18 to 28, are facing citations and charges in both Fond du Lac and Winnebago counties.
Through interviews, police learned a pink backpack had been stashed near or under a pine tree close to the vehicle’s location at W6395 Lincoln Rd. It is believed this backpack contains more drug-related items, as well as a handgun.
Interviews indicated a firearm was in the vehicle, but one was not located during searches of the vehicle or suspects. The area was scoured by law enforcement and K9s, but no backpack or gun were found.
The Sheriff’s Office is asking residents in that area to be aware that this pink backpack and a handgun may have been discarded at some point during this incident. The route of travel of the vehicle in Fond du Lac County was south on Lakeshore Drive and east on Lincoln Road before it was parked in the field near W6395 Lincoln Road. The third individual appears to have travelled straight north from the vehicle to where she was taken into custody on White Pine Road.
If you see these items, do not attempt to retrieve them. Instead, contact the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center at (920) 929-3390.
