OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — An Oshkosh bridge will be closed for approximately seven months due to an upcoming construction project.
Work is slated to begin Sept. 2 on the U.S. 45 (Main Street) bridge over the Fox River in Oshkosh, following the approval of a more-than $6 million contract. The bridge will be closed and detoured for the entirety of construction, which is expected to finish in April 2026.
Improvements to the bridge will include:
- Rehabilitate existing electrical, mechanical, hydraulic and structural components of the bascule span
- Minor repairs to the operator’s house, hydraulic power units and access platforms
- Concrete deck repairs and overlay of the fixed approach spans
- Removal and replacement of the steel grid deck on the movable span
Anticipated benefits include:
- Decreased maintenance costs associated with the structure
- Improved operation of the movable span
- Extending the life of the existing structure by replacing deteriorated and worn-out components
Officials say the vehicle detour will utilize 9th Avenue, Oregon Street and Jackson Street. The pedestrian detour will use sidewalks along 6th Avenue, Oregon Street, Jackson Street, Division Street, Pearl Avenue and Main Street.
Local, business and emergency access will be maintained.
