APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Tyrese Simmons was convicted Tuesday for firing shots in Appleton’s Erb Park. No one was injured in the incident.
Simmons, 21, pleaded no contest to second-degree recklessly endangering safety and being a felon in possession of a firearm. Four other counts were dismissed. Sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 27.
According to the criminal complaint, Simmons approached a bunch of juveniles, asking about a phone which had been lost or stolen on June 25, 2024. Simmons then pulled a gun out of backpack and fired. Witnesses reported hearing three or four shots.
Police found two spent 9mm casings and one unspent round near the park pavilion. Simmons was tracked down and arrested. Police found a gun in his backpack.
Simmons is currently housed at the Racine Youthful Offender Correctional Facility for unrelated cases.
