APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A Fox Valley blood bank says its supplies are “critically low” after emergencies over the weekend.
The Community Blood Center says, as of Monday morning, its inventory of type O blood was only a third of what is anticipated to be needed in the coming days.
O-negative blood is particularly crucial since it can be given to any patient regardless of blood type.
“There is no substitute for human blood. It can only come from volunteer donors. Right now, local hospital patients are depending on that generosity,” John Hagins, Community Blood Center president and CEO, said in a news release. “Whether you’re a regular donor or giving for the very first time, we encourage you to act now to help save lives in your community.”
Appointments can be scheduled on CBC’s website or smartphone app, or by calling 1-800-280-4102.
