BLACK CREEK, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Thursday was a bittersweet day in the village of Black Creek, marking the final hours of the Black Creek Police Department’s existence.
Starting Friday, law enforcement services will be provided by the Outagamie County Sheriff’s Office. One full-time patrol deputy will staff Black Creek.
The switch was approved during a special village board meeting June 3, passing with a 5-1 vote.
In a Facebook post Thursday, the police department said:
This will be the final post of the Black Creek Police Department. I would like to personally thank all of the citizens of Black Creek for their words of encouragement and support. You are the reason we, the small town police officers, served this community with pride and integrity. Over the many years, countless officers have come and gone, most of them went on to very successful careers in larger agencies.
Former Police Chief Lowell James retired in April after 32 years with the Black Creek Police Department.
