(LEARFIELD) – The Chicago Cubs jumped out in front with three runs in the first, but Milwaukee scored four times in the bottom of the third and led the rest of the way.
The first battle between National League Central Division leaders was won by the Brewers Monday night, 8-4.
Sal Frelick, Christian Yelich, and Andrew Vaughn hit homers, and Nick Mears picked up the pitching win in relief while Matthew Boyd took the loss for Chicago.
Yelich said that it was a great win but it’s still only July.
Yelich talked about his home run that “double doinked” off the top of the wall before going over.
Jacob Misiorowski started for the Brewers and went 4 innings after giving up 3 runs in the first inning.
He talked about getting through the first inning when he gave up 3 runs.
Brewers manager Pat Murphy said that he learned a lot about Misiorowski who threw 40 pitches in the first inning.
Quinn Priester starts the second game of the series Tuesday night.
Former Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Colin Rea will start for the Cubs.
