(WTAQ-WLUK) — The federal government is asking Cellcom customers for information about the company’s recent service outage.
For about two weeks in May, customers were unable to make or receive phone calls or text messages. Cellcom confirmed on May 28 that the outage was the result of a cyber incident.
The Federal Communications Commission announced Friday it wants details about how the outage affected consumers, businesses and government entities, including 911 call centers. Specifically, the FCC wants to know whether consumers could make or receive calls and text messages, when services were restored and whether 911 calls went through.
The FCC also wants to know about how Cellcom handled the outage and whether it kept the public adequately informed about the incident and restoration efforts.
