MANITOWOC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – No trial date was set Friday for Jesse Vang, the man who reported Elijah Vue missing and is now charged with causing his death and hiding the three-year-old’s body.
Vang, 40, faces four charges: physical abuse of a child – repeated acts causing death, hiding a corpse, obstructing an officer, and chronic neglect of a child.
His attorney, Jeffrey Jensen, said in court Friday he is still reviewing the evidence in the case. Another status conference was scheduled for Sept. 26.
Vang did not participate in Friday’s hearing.
Katrina Baur, Vue’s mother, also faces charges. Baur also returns to court Sept. 26 for a status conference.
Vang reported the child missing in February, 2024. Baur and Vang were both jailed on child neglect charges soon after. Prosecutors said Baur sent her son to stay with Vang, her boyfriend, for “disciplinary reasons.”
In September, a man preparing his land for hunting season found Vue’s remains on private property in Manitowoc County.
Doctors who examined the boy’s remains determined the toddler suffered from physical abuse, psychological and emotional maltreatment, as well as neglect. Healed fractures on Vue’s skull and face were also found by doctors.
