GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – David Greiten was charged with his 8th drunk driving offense after police found him passed out in a car, stopped in the middle of an Allouez street, with a blood alcohol level nearly four times the legal limit, according to a criminal complaint.
Greiten, 64, made an initial appearance on the charge Thursday. If convicted of this charge, he faces a mandatory minimum of three years in prison and up to 12.5 years in prison.
While setting the $25,000 cash bond, Court Commissioner Kate Zuidmulder noted the danger the situation posed.
“This is on June 18th at 11:48 in the morning. 11:48 in the morning! This is summertime. This is kids riding their bikes in the street. Playing. We have community members walking up and down these streets, and at 11:48 in the morning you’re driving down a residential street. You could have hit any number of people,” she said.
“I’m very sorry,” Greiten said in court.
Greiten, who had a valid driver’s license, returns to court July 18 for a balance of initial appearance.
According to the complaint, police were called Wednesday to the 500 block of Simonet Street for a vehicle stopped in the middle of the road. They found Greiten with “his head laid back and unconscious.”
After being taken to the hospital, he failed several field sobriety tests. He denied that he had been drinking.
At the jail, a preliminary breath test was administered, “which it displayed above .3%,” the complaint states. The usual limit for BAC while driving .08%.
A blood draw was performed for chemical test, but results are not cited in the complaint.
Greiten was convicted of his 7th drunk driving offense in 2011. He was sentenced to three years in prison, and had his license revoked for three years.
He was convicted of drunk driving offenses on May 8, 1991; Aug. 24, 1993; Dec. 20, 1994; April 2, 1997; May 2, 2000; Sept. 6, 2005; and Oct. 10, 2011, the complaint states.
