MANITOWOC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Prosecutors have made a plea deal offer to Katrina Baur, the mother of Elijah Vue. Vue was the 3-year-old boy reported missing from a Two Rivers home in February 2024, and whose body was found in September. However, details of the proposal were not divulged in court Friday.
Meanwhile, both sides continue to review evidence in the case, so no trial date was set. Baur returns to court Sept. 26 for a status conference.
Baur, 32, faces four charges, including chronic neglect of a child – consequence is death, and neglecting a child.
Also charged in the case is Jesse Vang, the man who was caring for Vue and reported him missing. He is charged with physical abuse of a child causing death and hiding a corpse. No trial date has been set; he returns to court June 20 for a status conference.
In court Friday, defense attorney Amber Gratz asked for more time to review the evidence in the case.
District Attorney Jacalyn LaBre said she recently received another 400 pages of reports, which she needs to review and send to Gratz.
In order to give them both time to review evidence, the September status conference was set by Judge Anthony Lambrecht.
Baur did not appear in court or by video for Friday’s hearing.
Baur and Vang were both jailed on child neglect charges soon after the child was reported missing. Prosecutors said Baur sent her son to stay with Vang, her boyfriend, for “disciplinary reasons.”
In September, a man preparing his land for hunting season found Vue’s remains on private property in Manitowoc County.
Doctors who examined the boy’s remains determined the toddler suffered from physical abuse, psychological and emotional maltreatment, as well as neglect. Healed fractures on Vue’s skull and face were also found by doctors.
