OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers is proposing more than $2 billion for road repairs in the 2025-27 state budget — a $397 million increase from the previous budget.
His proposal designates a total of $2.6 billion across two years in funding for the State Highway Rehabilitation Program.
The proposal breaks down as follows:
- $790 million to I-39/90/94 expansion between Madison and Wisconsin Dells
- $300 million to Southeast Wisconsin megaprojects
- $100 million to Local Roads Improvement supplement program (same as last budget)
- $50 million to Agricultural Roads Improvement program ($100 million decrease from last budget)
“Transportation issues, fixing roads issues, infrastructure issues are pretty much bipartisan in nature,” said Evers during a Tuesday visit to Oshkosh for his annual statewide Pothole Patrol tour. “We’re looking forward to getting some increases — not large increases, but increases in the next budget. We really do have to help out cities and municipalities and townships.”
Republican lawmakers like State Rep. Ron Tusler, R-Harrison, say Evers needs to commit to more spending for local and agricultural roads.
