APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A Sunday morning fire in Appleton has caused thousands of dollars in damage to a home.
According to a press release from the Appleton Fire Department, firefighters were called to the house fire at 8:00 a.m., on the 1700 block of North Elinor Street.
“The initial call indicated visible smoke from the roof vents and audible alarms coming from the residence,” the press release says.
When officials arrived, smoke was seen coming from the home, which was unoccupied and under renovation.
Officials say they forced entry into the home and were able to extinguish the flames.
While investigators work to identify the cause, they say the fire caused $100,000 in damages.
“The Appleton Fire Department reminds residents to check their smoke alarms monthly and to follow the recommended guidelines for the disposal of oil-soaked rags. For more information on smoke alarm best practices, please visit the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) website.”
