GRAND CHUTE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A four-way stop is coming to a popular detour route during Interstate 41 construction.
The intersection of Casaloma Drive and Capitol Drive in Grand Chute will become a four-way stop on Monday, the town announced.
The state Department of Transportation plans to install temporary “stop ahead” signs on Capitol Drive leading to the intersection.
Many drivers are using Capitol Drive to cross I-41 while the Highway 15/OO (Northland Avenue) overpass is being rebuilt.
“The Town Board felt it was important for traffic safety, during the construction on I-41, to post the intersection of Casaloma and Capitol Drive as a four-way stop.” Grand Chute town administrator Richard Downey said in a news release. “The Town Board discussed the matter at their May 6th meeting, and directed staff to work with the DOT on the temporary improvements. The Public Works Director contacted DOT, and we got their assistance with electronic signage and stop ahead signs.”
The new overpass is scheduled to open in the fall.
The work is part of the project to expand I-41 between Highway 96 (Wisconsin Avenue) in Grand Chute and Highway F (Scheuring Road) in De Pere from four lanes to six.
