The Pancake Place in Green Bay asks patrons to share where they're from during NFL Draft week.
GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — NFL fans from far and wide came may have came for the draft; but didn’t leave before trying a Green Bay staple restaurant.
About 2,000 visitors were served at The Pancake Place on Military Ave. Thursday through Sunday. Host and server Sami Barlament says they put up a world map near the front entrance.
“We asked people to put a pin where they’re from, that’s been really cool to look at,” said Barlament. “All the way from California, Florida, Alaska even. We’ve had some Hawaii, Germany, and a bunch of different areas.”
Server Haleigh Dunks says it’s fun getting to serve a different crowd.
“They say ‘Oh my God!’ because of our stuffed hashbrowns; they must not have the same portions that we do because they’re super surprised by that,” said Dunks. “And our pancakes, obviously, they’re huge and they [the patrons] say ‘Oh my God!’ and they’re super surprised.'”
Notable people who dined at The Pancake Place during draft week include former NFL player Desmond Howard, and ESPN’s Booger McFarland and Mike Greenburg.
However, the iconic breakfast and brunch joint didn’t see quite as big of a crowd as they expected.
The Pancake Place had originally planned to stay open an additional two hours later than usual Monday-Sunday during draft week. However, due to dwindling crowds in their later hours, they only stayed open until 4 p.m. on Monday, and went back to their regular closing time of 2 p.m. on Tuesday through the rest of the week. Barlament attributed that to visitors and locals all wanting to go to the draft in the late afternoon and evening.
The busiest time for The Pancake Place Thursday and Friday; when sales were up 26% compared to their average.
