TOWN OF NASEWAUPEE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The observation tower at Potawatomi State Park in Door County is open for the first time in seven years.
The tower opened this week, according to the Friends of Potawatomi State Park organization.
After the tower closed for the season in December 2017, it did not reopen the following spring when the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources says it discovered significant wood decay.
The 2023-25 state budget included an emergency order to stabilize the tower at a cost of $500,000. Later, another $500,000 was approved to complete the restoration and safety upgrades.
The 75-foot-tall tower was built in 1931.
