APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — An Appleton K9 officer helped take an individual involved in a domestic disturbance into custody.
Police officers were called to the 700 block of N. Hawthrone Drive Friday evening.
Investigating officers established probable cause to arrest a male inside the residence on domestic violence and bail jumping charges. The male suspect was uncooperative with officers, refused to exit the residence, and barricaded the doors.
Information provided to officers suggested the suspect was possibly high on methamphetamine and potentially armed with edged weapons.
After numerous attempts were made to negotiate with the suspect and facilitate a peaceful surrender, officers received consent from the homeowner to enter the residence and arrest the suspect.
Drones and a K9 were used to search the residence. The Appleton Fire Department’s Tactical Emergency Medical Support also responded to assist.
The suspect was eventually located in the basement, hiding out of view of officers. After repeated commands were ignored, K9 Drakon was deployed and the suspect was subsequently taken into custody safely without further incident. The suspect was treated at an area hospital for signs of drug overdose and minor injuries to his arm. He was later taken to the Outagamie County Jail.
It was later discovered the suspect had turned on the home’s oven and opened the oven door, as well as turned on the stove-top burners. The Appleton Fire Department assisted in ventilating the structure, rendering it safe.
