MANITOWOC COUNTY (WTAQ-WLUK) — A Mishicot High School physical education teacher and coach allegedly sexually assaulted students and took inappropriate photographs of them, including encounters at school, Manitowoc County District Attorney Jaclyn LaBre said Thursday.
Ryan Schroeder has not been formally charged. As is the typical procedure in Manitowoc County, he appeared in court Thursday for a bond hearing.
A cash bail of $150,000 was set by Commissioner Patricia Koppa. When she announced that amount, Schroeder, who appeared for the hearing by video from the jail, lowered his head into his hands.
An initial appearance is scheduled for Monday.
The requested charges include second-degree sexual assault of a child, repeated sexual assault of the same child, sexual assault of a child by school staff, 10 counts of possession of child pornography and child enticement.
While there may be ten child porn possession counts charged, D.A. LaBre said there were 62 files associated with just one of the victims, plus another 18 images or videos which were recently deleted. Schroeder “participating in taking” some of the photos, LeBre said.
“He also was brazen enough to conduct some of these encounters inside a school setting, so that also is an aggravating factor that he would do that kind of conduct,” she said.
The conduct happened between 2023 and 2025, LaBre said.
In a letter to families and staff members, Mishicot superintendent Cory Erlandson wrote:
Like you, I am deeply troubled by these allegations. Mr. Schroeder has been placed on leave. He will not be allowed on school property. The District is fully cooperating with law enforcement officials as they conduct their investigation.
