GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The NFL says it will be announcing the acts for the NFL Draft Concert Series Thursday at 8 a.m.
It’s one of the many attractions that come with this event, but one of the few we still don’t have complete details on.
The NFL Draft is just a little over a week away, but NFL Senior Director of Events Nicki Ewell says the league is just now putting the final approvals on who will play the concert Saturday night.
Big names like Fall Out Boy, Motley Crue, and just last year, Big Sean, have performed at past drafts.
Local organizers have compared the NFL Draft concert to the free kickoff concert many experienced in 2011 before the Packers’ home opener, the season after they won the Super Bowl.
Kid Rock, Lady A and Maroon 5 performed for about 100,000 people outside Lambeau Field.
The draft concert will start about half an hour after the final pick is made in the draft, according to Ewell. The NFL expects the concert start time to be around 6 p.m, with that depending on how long teams take to make their picks.
Ewell wouldn’t say how many acts will be part of the show, but that she expects it will be well received.
“We have our head of music out of [Los Angeles] so we collaborate with the local team, if they have relationships with certain artists,” said Ewell. “If there’s a fan of a certain team, things like that. So we want to make sure it’s a crowd pleaser and it’s something that’s representative of the community a little bit.”
As we’ve found out in the past few months, the league’s timelines for announcements are subject to change.
The NFL Draft concert is in addition to two concerts that will be in downtown Green Bay.
Draft City Music Fest will happen in Leicht Park on the Wednesday and Saturday of draft week. The Wednesday lineup starts at 4 p.m., with De La Soul headlining at 9 o’clock. Saturday’s lineup starts at 5 p.m. with Less Than Jake headlining at 10 o’clock.
