(UW ATHLETICS) MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin softball team (26-16, 8-8) won the final game of its series against Indiana, 10-5, securing the series victory.
The Badgers scored early and often, putting across two or more runs in each of the first four innings of the game.
The bulk of the Badger’s early runs came from a couple of home runs. Tied up 2-2 in the bottom of the second, Danielle Lucey poked a ball just fair around the left field pole, putting the Badgers up 4-2.
In the next inning, Wisconsin managed to load the bases for Emmy Wells, who proceeded to bash Wisconsin’s fourth grand slam of the season.
Trailing 8-2 in the top of the fourth, Indiana cut the deficit in half, scoring three runs off three doubles. Emily Bojan answered back for the Badgers though, roping a double off the wall with the bases loaded, and extending the lead to 10-5.
The score remained the same for the next three innings, as the Badgers held on to take the series victory.
The Badgers made the most of their six hits, four of them coming with runners in scoring position. Overall, UW was 6-for-13 with runners on base.
Indiana kept pace with Wisconsin early on, despite a solid start from Molly Jacobson. IU scored one run in the top of the first, with only one ball leaving the infield. The same circumstance occurred in the next frame, with the Hoosiers scoring off an error to make it 2-2.
Jacobson collected the win (9-3), but was ultimately pulled in the fourth, giving up three earned runs in 3.1 innings.
From there, Gabi Salo took over the game, holding Indiana scoreless for the remainder of the contest. Salo tossed 3.1 shutout innings, striking out three batters.
