FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Police say they’ve arrested a 43-year-old Fond du Lac man after they say he fired several shots inside an apartment.
Dispatchers received a call from a mother inside an apartment who shared her son was threatening to commit suicide Friday night.
Officers were called to National Avenue.
They learned the mother used a wheelchair and couldn’t safely leave the apartment.
Police say the man fired rounds from a handgun inside the apartment, which shattered a bedroom window.
A shelter in place was issued for residents in the apartment complex. A perimeter was established and evacuations of residents were done.
Officers eventually made it into the apartment.
Police say the man refused to engage with crisis negotiators.
The situation then escalated after police say the man was threatening his mother.
She was able to leave the home safely.
No further details were released by police.
Fond du Lac Police Department is reminding the community that help is available if someone is experiencing a mental health crisis.
